Westermeerwind, in the Ijselmeer, is the near-shore element of an onshore wind project. Ballast Nedam will engineer, supply and install the foundations, while Mammoet will transport and install the 3MW turbines. Installation is due to begin in 2015.
The 48-turbine, 144MW wind farm will form the near-shore element of the Noordoostpolder project in the Ijselmeer, north of Amsterdam. Siemens was appointed recently as turnkey contractor by the developer, Westermeerwind BV.
The turbines will be installed in three rows, 500-1100m from the shore. A further 38 Enercon 7.5MW turbines will be installed on-shore. On completion, the combined project will become the Netherlands' largest wind farm, generating around 1400GWh per year.
