Vattenfall plans to add up to 17 3MW turbines, to the project in an effort to mitigate wind turbines' potential impact on airport operations.
The Kentish Flats Extension (KFE) project site lies 7km off the Kent coast, in the Thames estuary. The airport is located in north-east Kent, close to Ramsgate.
The two parties are working on addressing the turbines'effects on the airport's radar system.
Successful mitigation would allow the expanded wind farm and the airport to operate safely.
Vattenfall could then make a final investment decision, paving the way for construction to commence. This is now pencilled in for 2015.
