Gazprom to invest €160 million in wind

SERBIA: Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS), a subsidiary of Russian natural gas producer Gazprom, is investing up to €160 million in the construction of the first wind farm in Serbia.

Construction of the 102MW project will start this summer. Known as the Plandiste wind power plant, this will be the first power infrastructure project built in Serbia for the past 25 years and the country's first wind farm.

The wind farm is expected to be comprised of 34 wind turbines. The electricity it produces will be purchased by state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije.

According to estimates of the Serbian Wind Energy Association, the country’s wind energy potential is estimated at 1.3GW of installed capacity.
