Nordex wins 80MW Romanian order

ROMANIA: Iberdrola has handed Nordex an 80MW order for a project in Romania, the manufacturer's largest in the country to date.

The order is for 32 N90/2500 turbines to go to the Chirnogeni wind farm, which is located near the Black Sea in the southern Dobrogea region.

The project is owned by EP Wind, a consortium headed up by the Marguerite Fund, which includes the European Investment Bank, German development bank KfW and Poland's PKO Bank Polski among its core sponsors.

Spanish power giant Iberdrola is handling the engineering, procurement and contracting element of the project. The project is expected to come online in late 2013.

Nordex director Lars Bondo Krogsgaard said: "Chirnogeni is an important reference project for our new subsidiary in Romania. In this way, we are demonstrating that large-scale projects can also be successfully executed in this country by Nordex."

Nordex won its first Romanian orders last year. The German turbine manufacturer secured a 20MW order for two projects in Romania, which were also the company's first in eastern Europe. The deal, with two unnamed customers, was for two sets of two N100 2.5MW turbines.
