INDIA: ReGen Powertech has launched a Vensys-designed 1.5MW turbine targeted at India's low wind speed market.

The V-87 turbinehas been specially adapted by German manufacturer Vensys. The Indian market features mostly low or medium wind sites, with high temperatures and humidity.

The V-87 has an 85-metre tower and 43-metre blades and aims to deliver a 15% increase in annual energy production over ReGen Powertech's V-77 turbine, and a 5-7% increase in annual energy production over the V-82.

Madhusudan Khemka, managing director of ReGen Powertech, said: "The order for 279MW during the pre-launch of the V-87 is a testament to our customer's confidence in ReGen's technology and capabilities to execute large-scale wind power projects and our unrivalled experience in the Indian market."

The turbine was launched at the India Windpower event in Chennai India. Speaking to Windpower Monthly, general manager of marketing G Ravichandran said that the main customers for the new turbine are Tata Power and cigarette and cosmetic manufacturer ITC Group.
