Juhl Wind plans Midwest project acquisitions

UNITED STATES: Community wind developer Juhl Wind has announced plans to buy up existing projects in the US Midwest.

Juhl said it is seeking to acquire projects of under 100MW that are approaching their tenth year in operation and that may need repowering. It also said it was interested in becoming a partner in any community wind projects.

In a statement, the developer also said it was setting up a joint venture with a Colorado-based company called 8030 Companies that has been working with Juhl since 2011.

However, there is no information available on 8030 or what it will bring to the joint venture. Additionally, 8030 Companies does not appear in a search of the US Securities and Exchange website.

Speaking about Juhl Wind's Midwest expansion plans, Corey Juhl, the company's vice president, said: "Industry data suggest that there is well over 6,000MW of wind farms under 50MW in size presently operating in North America, and obviously significantly more under 100MWs.

"This data underscores the tremendous scale of opportunity for both Juhl and 8030. Juhl's partnership with 8030 Companies allows us to expand our reach beyond the Midwest market and leverage Juhl's 25 years of experience in the wind industry to expand our services and balance sheet to operating assets and projects."
