UNITED STATES: AWEA's political contributions in the hotly contested US 2012 election rank it 1179th among more than 19,000 groups and companies that have made campaign donations, according to a newly released database.

The Center for Responsive Politics, a research group that tracks the money in US politics, has pulled together data on campaign contributions and lobbying expenditures.

AWEA’s contributions total $210.993 in 2012, behind the $1.1 million contributed by the Nuclear Energy Institute, nearly $817,000 by the American Petroleum Institute and the $429,456 by the American Gas Association. AWEA did contribute more than the $148,250 given by America’s Natural Gas Alliance, which represents gas exploration and production companies.

AWEA has also spent $1.14 million lobbying US lawmakers this year, ranking it 223 out of 3,874 groups. The only energy-related company to make it into the Top 10 ranks of lobbying organizations was General Electric, which spent nearly $11.2 million.

Anti-PTC group, Americans for Prosperity, made has only $8,591 in political contributions this year, but it has laid out $31 million on election-related spending, most of it, according the database, advocating against Democrats.
