The announcement comes as Verbund commissioned the 100MW Casimcea 1 wind farm. Both projects are located 250 kilometres east of Romania's capital of Bucharest and are designed to feed into the same transformer station, which was also built by Verbund.
Casimcea 1 comprises 43 Enercon E-82 2.3MW turbines and is expected to generate 240GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the needs of around 155,000 Romanian households. Wind speeds at the site are comparable to those at the German North Sea coast.
Investment in the two wind farms totals €340 million, the company stated. Romania's operates a renewables support system based on quota obligations and tradable certificates with minimum and maximum prices that took effect in October 2011.
