As a result Aalborg, which is Siemens main manufacturing base, will be expanded to accommodate production of the turbine's 75-metre blade. In June, Siemens has produced the first batch of 75-metre blades.

The location also holds one of two need R&D centres the company launched last year as part of a €150 million expansion.

Earlier this month, Dong handed Siemens a €2.9 billion 1.8GW agreement for UK projects between 2014-17.

It is the first major deal for Siemens 6MW turbine. The only other contract is for the 30MW Block Island test project off Rhode Island.
