GL certifies Sinovel 3MW machine

The Statement of Compliance confirms that SL 3000/90 meets the requirements of GL RC's "Guideline for the Certification of Offshore Wind Turbines", which addresses the safety philosophy, quality assurance and engineering integrity of the turbine and that the turbine complies with the standard in terms of the verification of its load assumptions and design.

With a rated power of 3,000kW, a rotor diameter of 90/105/113m and a hub height of 80/90/110m, the SL3000 series employs several patented technologies and has a low-voltage ride-through capability.

A European demonstration project comprising two Sinovel SL3000 3MW turbines came into service in February in a wind farm 35km north-east of Karlstad in central Sweden. Also in February, 34 sets of Sinovel's SL3000/90 turbines totalling 102MW were installed in the Donghai Bridge Wind Farm.

GL Renewables Certification is also charged with the approval of the Sinovel SL3000 onshore variants, which are currently under certification.
