The consortium, which includes Eole Res, Technip and Neoen Marine, is looking to secure the 500MW Saint-Brieuc Bay and 480MW Saint-Nazaire projects.
If successful, the turbines will be supplied by Areva, which recently revamped its 5MW Multibrid turbine. Areva will build a new factory at Le Havre to build the turbines. Technip will handle the environmental studies and lay the foundations.
Iberdrola Global Offshore Division chief executive Keith Anderson said: "Our consortium has put in a huge amount of effort to put together two very detailed bids in response to the French government’s tender. The submission of these bids for the sites at Saint-Brieuc and Saint-Nazaire is the first stage of a major challenge, which we aim to meet with the help of our partners.
"Engineers and project managers in our headquarters in Glasgow will have a key role in supporting the projects, and will oversee a consortium that has worldwide experience of developing major renewable-energy projects and a wealth of technological expertise."
