Mining company Minera Los Pelambres, a subsidiary of Chilean conglomerate Antofagasta, has signed a 20-year PPA for the project. Additionally, Antofagasta has an option to acquire 30% of the development.

Construction is set to begin next year with the aim of coming online in the second half of 2013. The wind farm will use Siemens 2.3MW turbines.

On completion, El Arrayan will be one of the largest projects in South America.

In September, Vestas has announced it is building a 100MW development in northern Chile. The manufacturer said it owned the Talinay Oriente wind project in Limari province.
