200MW offshore deal signed in Taiwan

TAIWAN: The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has signed a cooperation agreement with two companies to develop a 200MW wind farm off the country’s west coast.

According to local media reports and the Asia Pulse news agency, NCKU has agreed to develop the Fuhai offshore wind farm with Metal Industries Research & Development Centre — a non-profit organisation — and Taiwan Generations Corp.

Lin Hsin-yu, general manager of Taiwan Generations Corp was reported as saying that the Fuhai wind farm, off Changpin, had been assessed to be the country’s best potential offshore wind farm.

Based on the calculation of a 200MW system, he said it could generate 640 million kWh per year.
