First shipping access contract for Houlder

UK: Marine engineering company Houlder has made the first sale of its Turbine Access System (TAS) to workboat operator Turbine Transfers.

The first TAS system, which provides access between workboats and offshore wind structures, will be installed on Turbine Transfer's new 19-metre Caernarfon Bay workboat, built by South Boats of Cowes, Isle of Wight, in early 2012. It consists of a lightweight motion-compensated gangway installed on the ship's bow.

Rupert Hare, Houlder's managing director, said: "A new generation of workboats is vital to the success of the UK's offshore wind industry as turbines move further offshore and into more onerous conditions. Houlder is delighted our equipment is making a contribution."
