CHINA: Mingyang has been handed a 48MW deal by Guangdong Yuedian Xuwen Wind Power to supply turbines for an offshore project in the south-west of the country.

Mingyang will supply 16 3MW SCD Aerodyn-designed turbines to the project, which is located in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. However the turbine will first have to pass a 250-hour service test prior to installation.

The SCD (Super Compact Drive) turbine uses a two-bladed design. Designer Aerodyn is currently designing offshore SCD turbines of around 6MW.

In May last year, there were reports China was planning to launch its biggest offshore wind farm yet in the south-west, outside Shanwei City, Guangdong province. It did not confirm the capacity of the project.

According to China's 12th Five-year Plan for energy and renewable energy development, which is under preparation, China aims to have 5GW of offshore wind farms by 2015.
