Siemens puts €150 million into wind

DENMARK: Siemens has announced plans to invest €150 million in the expansion of its wind power business.

The company is planning to open two research and development centres, and an offshore ‘centre of excellence’ in Denmark.

Siemens Wind Power CEO, Jens-Peter Saul said further factories were planned in the UK, Canada, Russia and India.

Speaking about the move, Siemens Wind Power chief technology officer Henrik Stiesdal said the R&D centres’ work would include its direct drive and the new ‘Quantum’ blade.

Saul said: "Our investments in R&D and the extension of production facilities will pave the road for our global expansion."

The R&D centres will be in Brande and Aalborg. The offshore centre will be in Vejle.
