Wind Wire: Gestamp plans tower factory

TURKEY: The renewables division of Spanish car and automation component firm Gestamp is building a wind tower factory in Turkey as part of a joint venture with local industrial supply firm Faik Celik Holding.

The 47,000-square-metre factory will cost around EUR30 million to complete, according to tower division Gestamp Wind Steel. Gestamp says the factory will consolidate its position as one of the leading global tower suppliers.

It expects to start production before the end of 2010 and ramp up to an annual capacity of 450 towers. The company currently manufactures an annual 1,700 towers.

The factury is planned for a portside site in the north-east of the country, but the company did not respond to Windpower Monthly's request to identify the location.
