Wind Wire: Oregon's biggest plant completed

UNITED STATES: Utility Portland General Electric (PGE) has completed the final phase of Oregon's biggest wind farm.

The third phase of the $1 billion Biglow Canyon wind farm in Sherman County, Oregon, takes the installation to 217 turbines with 450MW of capacity. It was developed by Orion Energy, but will be owned and operated by PGE. The latest phase uses 76 Siemens turbines for a capacity of 175MW. Phase 1, comprising 76 Vestas 1.65MW turbines totalling 125MW, was completed in December 2007. Phase 2, comprising 65 Siemens 2.3MW turbines totalling 150MW, was completed in August 2009.
