The contract is for 68 2.3MW turbines, with 61 using a 101metre rotor and the remaining seven using a 93 metre rotor. This will be the first time the 2.3 101 has been used in the UK.

Delivery, installation and a five-year maintenance contract are included in the deal. The project is expected to come online by 2012.

Jens-Peter Saul  CEO of Siemens Wind Power said: "The follow-up order from SSER for Griffin Wind Farm demonstrates the confidence that our customers have in our products and services. At the same time, it helps us strengthen our leading position on the UK market for wind power.

"Furthermore, the Griffin wind power plant will yield significant benefits for Scotland in terms of jobs and local value creation." The project will provide over 100 jobs during the construction phase."

Separately, Siemens has also won an order to connect the North Sea wind farm, Nordsee-Ost, to the German grid. The order, which is worth €500million, includes supplying a substation. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
