According to reports, the wind farm is set to be constructed over the next 18 months. The development is budgeted at €120million.
An application has also been made to the country's transmission operator Eirgrid, to connect the project to the national grid.
The wind farm will be using 32 2.5MW turbines, which will be located at Bord na Móna's peat production site in Mountlucus. Bord na Móna is believed to be looking at increasing its renewables portfolio.
With Ireland more severely hit by the economic downturn than many of its European neighbours, finance for projects has been hard to come by.
According to Windpower Monthly's Market Status Report, Ireland only 220MW of new projects were completed in 2009, bringing total wind capacity to 1.27GW.
