Vestas said the office, which is planned for Johannesburg, was part of its attempt to improve its presence in emerging markets.
Speaking about the move, Vestas president for central Europe Hans Jorn Rieks said: "Vestas sees Southern Africa - and South Africa in particular - as key emerging markets for us and as leaders in the development of wind energy in Africa. South Africa has made a solid commitment to a clean energy future and we want to build strong and constructive partnerships with customers, government, the energy industry and the sustainable development community to build a sustainable wind industry."
A Vestas 2MW turbine has already been installed near the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Cape Town. It forms part of a planned development by Belgian developer Electrawinds, who are offering its electricity to the stadium free of charge.
