Major oil company buys into wind

ROMANIA: Romanian oil and gas group Petrom has acquired a fully permitted 45MW wind farm in the Dobrogea region of south-eastern Romania from local developer Monsson Alma.

Petrom, one of the largest gas and oil producers in south-eastern Europe, will invest €100 million in the wind project, its first foray into the renewable energy sector.

The wind farm will use 3MW turbines from Danish manufacturer Vestas and is expected to be operational by next year. The company says that it is also planning additional renewable energy investments as it seeks to make the transition from being a pure oil and gas company to a diversified energy player.
