According to EDPR, the contract with Vestas represents one of the largest turbine-supply contract in the world. EDPR says that Vestas was selected for being the competitor that could offer the greatest overall value, taking into account the short-term project pipeline of EDPR, as well as the company's strategic objectives. EDPR will make an initial order of 1.5GW for the supply, installation and commissioning of the project between 2011 and 2012, with an option of a further 600MW to be exercised in 2010 and 2011. This agreement also provides flexibility of delivery in North America, South America and Europe, and a choice of wind turbines for each project. Vestas Wind Systems will take on the responsibility for operation and maintenance of equipment for two years, which may be extended for another five or ten years.
