Wind Wire: Local support for emerging market

EGYPT: Wind and renewables consultancy Garrad Hassan has opened an office in Cairo to accommodate growing demand in the African nation for consulting, design and training courses for renewable energy projects.

Wind in Egypt is booming. Installed capacity stood at only 5MW in 2005, according to Garrad Hassan's figures, and in 2009 reached 430MW. Dr Helmut Klug, regional manager, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: "We are now closer to our Egyptian clients and can offer the service without any restrictions. Egypt represents one of the most active regions in North Africa/Middle East for wind and solar developments. Our Cairo staff can support stakeholders at all stages of wind and solar projects with local services and support locally."
