Germany's federal environment ministry has now joined forces with the association of German cities and towns to set up an information exchange on the repowering of wind stations in a bid to guide towns and parishes through complex planning issues and other problems. The new exchange will be based in Hanover and run by Kommunalen Umwelt-Aktion. The creation of a centralised and independent advisory service for municipal repowering issues shows the importance of towns and parishes in future energy policy, says Gerd Landsberg, managing director of the association.
