The 330kW Enercon turbines arrived on a UK Ministry of Defence charter ship in September last year and are now fully operational.
They are installed at Sand Bay, about ten kilometres from the islands' capital, Stanley, and across the valley from three other wind turbines, which were installed in 2007. In a future phase, the Falklands government plans to add a 2MWh electric battery storage system to maximise the wind plant's efficiency.
